Handbrake libdvdcss mac6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() If this is the extent of the hassle we have to go through to get our DVD content on our iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs, so be it. For so long, ripping your DVDs has been a fairly seamless process. This hiccup just shows how good we’ve had it as Mac users. Move libdvdcss-2.dll into the Handbrake installation folder (usually C:Program FilesHandBrake ). Download the appropriate libdvdcss-2.dll from this repository. usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64 Pick the version of libdvdcss you want (the highest version should be fine). ![]() Insert your DVD with HandBrake open in the background. usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386 With the libdvdcss software on your Mac, the following steps should allow you to rip yoiur DVD. usr/lib/libdvdcss.2.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures If you see the following, it is installed correctly: If you want to double check to see if it is installed properly, open Terminal.app, and paste in this line: If you run this installer from the VLC website, it will install a copy of the DVD decryption engine in a place where Handbrake can see it and use it. The three causes below will lead to HandBrake not finding valid source. The good news is that there is a solution to this problem, and it’s really not that hard. Symptoms and Solutions for HandBrake Not Ripping DVD on Mac Symptom 1. Unfortunately, that means that ripping DVDs in Handbrake is no longer as easy as dragging VLC.app and Handbrake.app into your /Applications folder. Starting with VLC 2.0, libdvdcss is no longer available as an individual dylib in the VLC application package, which means HandBrake can no longer use VLC’s libdvdcss for DVD decryption. Sadly, one of the changes with this release makes it impossible for third party applications to take advantage of VLC’s DVD decryption capability. ![]() Once the libdvdcss-1.4.2.pkg is downloaded on your Mac, double-click on the pkg file and install the installer as per the prompts. With it comes a new UI and experimental Blu-Ray support. This is what I found online (I dont have a Mac): Download the libdvdcss.pkg file from libdvdcss. As we reported, VLC 2.0 shipped last week.
